literacy programme
Our Literacy Programme has a focus on expanding emotional vocabulary and language, and using reading and writing activities to develop emotional understanding.
- If your pupils already know about the Cogs you can miss out Blocks 1 & 2, as this overlaps with our Getting Started work.
- Block 3 supports you to follow a ‘1-emotion-at-a-time’ approach using children’s literature and texts.
- Block 4 provides examples of novel and film studies to help you deliver a more extended and in-depth approach to developing emotional literacy in the classroom.

Identify your starting point
Think about your learners. What do they already know about Emotion Works and the cogs / cog language? Identify a level and starting point for your group based on their general curriculum level and prior experience of EW. Use the Progression Document to help.
Plan your own Schedule
Look over the proposed blocks and weeks of the Literacy schedule. Decide on how long you’d like to spend on each block and allocate dates to your personal schedule.
Live Check-in / Q&A
Join us live if you can on Monday 30th August at 4:30pm for our first #EWliteracy check-in where we’ll provide more pointers for the Introductory teaching block and answer any questions you have.
